- PECB publishes the course as 5 days with the certification exam on day 5.
- Its candidate handbook describes an open-book exam of 80 multiple-choice questions with a 70% pass mark across five domains.
- The Information Security Officer credential asks for no experience. The Chief Information Security Officer credential asks for 5 years of professional experience (2 in information security) and 300 hours of project activities.
- Credentials are valid for three years and are maintained through continuing professional development.

Does passing the exam make me a Chief Information Security Officer?
Not on its own. The CISO credential also requires the stated years of experience and project hours. A candidate who passes without the experience can hold the entry-level credential.

PECB’s handbook describes it as open book, allowing training materials, personal notes and dictionaries.
How long is the credential valid?
Three years, according to the handbook, with maintenance requirements.
