SCADA Security
Protect supervisory control and data acquisition systems and the processes they run.
SCADA Security: what it is and why it matters
SCADA systems monitor and control industrial and infrastructure processes. Their security combines network architecture, access control, monitoring, incident handling and continuity, with safety and availability usually ranking above confidentiality.
This training explains SCADA and ICS risks, how to design a security programme and network architecture, implement controls, manage incidents and test SCADA security.
Built for the people who carry the work
- OT and ICS security managers and engineers
- Plant and utility operations managers
- IT security staff who support OT environments
- Auditors of industrial environments
What you will be able to do
- Describe SCADA components and typical attack paths
- Design an ICS security programme and network architecture
- Implement and monitor controls suited to OT
- Plan incident and continuity response in industrial settings
- Test SCADA security safely

Relationship to IEC 62443 and NIST SP 800-82
How it supports real work

Choosing monitoring that does not disturb control traffic
Coordinating security and safety teams
Training, examination and certification are different steps
PECB publishes a Lead SCADA Security Manager programme. IEC 62443 and NIST SP 800-82 are separate documents and not the same as this credential.
- PECB publishes the course as 5 days with the exam on day 5.
- Its handbook describes 150 multiple-choice questions with a 70% pass mark across seven domains; the brochure gives a 3 hour duration.
- Credential levels depend on experience in SCADA security and project hours.
Certification bodies set and can change their own exam, eligibility and renewal rules. The details below are what the body publishes; we confirm the current position with you before you enrol.

Enquire About This CourseFrequently asked questions
Is SCADA security the same as IEC 62443?
No. IEC 62443 is a standards series. SCADA security is a topic area, and the course draws on several references.
Do I need engineering experience?
PECB lists a fundamental understanding of SCADA security as the course prerequisite.
Does Valtrenix assess OT environments?
Yes. See the OT/ICS Security Assessment service.
